The railroad of the Union Railroad Company, herein called the carrier, is a standard-gage, steam railroad, partly double tracked located in Pennsylvania. The owned mileage consists of a main line extending from East Pittsburgh to Hays, Pa., with numerous small branches diverging therefrom.


CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated July 2, 1894, under the general laws of the State of Pennsylvania, for the purpose of acquiring the property of The Union Railroad Company which had been incorporated January 21, 1889, under the general laws of the State of Pennsylvania. Pursuant to the above purpose, the carrier acquired the property of the railroad corporation named.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The owned mileage of the carrier, amounting to 20.628 miles, all of which is located in Pennsylvania, was acquired by purchase and construction. The portion acquired by purchase, about 1 mile in length, was acquired from The Union Railroad Company and is a portion of the present Bessemer Branch. The portion acquired by construction consists of a main line extending from East Pittsburgh to Hays, about 6 miles in length, of which about 1 mile was constructed during the period 1894 to 1896, and about 5 miles were constructed at different times between 1896 and 1907; and numerous small branches, aggregating about 14 miles in length, which were constructed at different periods between 1894 and 1907.
