The railroad of The Uintah Railway Company, herein called the carrier, is a narrow-gauge, single-track, steam railroad, extending from Mack, Colo., to Watson, Utah, with branches to Dragon and Rainbow, Utah, aggregating in all 68.458 miles of road. The carrier is an industrial railroad. It reports that for the year ending December 31, 1919, it handled 48,632 tons of freight, of which 33,982 tons represented products of mines. Most of the traffic consisted of gilsonite from the mines of The Barber Asphalt Paving Company, which controls the railroad. The carrier wholly owns 73.957 miles of all tracks, all of which it uses. This mileage is distributed by States as follows:


CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated November 4, 1903, under the general laws of the State of Colorado, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad to extend from a connection with the road of The Denver and Rio Grande Railroad Company near Mack, Colo., to Fort Duchesne, Utah, with a branch line extending to Vernal, Utah.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The entire road owned was acquired by construction. The line extending from Mack, Colo., to Dragon, Utah, 54.640 miles, was constructed by The Barber Asphalt Paving Company under contract and was completed in February, 1905. The lines extending from Dragon Junction to Watson, Utah, 9.590 miles, and from Rainbow Junction to Rainbow, 4.228 miles, were constructed by the carrier and were completed in November, 1911.
