[edit]Location and General Description of Property
[edit]The railroad of Troy and Bennington Railroad, herein referred to as the Troy and Bennington, consists of a single-track, standard-gage, steam railroad, situated entirely within the State of New York and extending from Hoosick Junction to the New York-Vermont State line, 5.249 miles. The [sic] Bennington also owns 1.047 miles of yard tracks and sidings, or a total of 6.296 miles of all tracks. This property is operated by the carrier as lessee through the Fitchburg Railroad.
Corporate History
[edit]The Troy and Bennington was incorporated on May 27, 1851, under the general laws of New York, for a term of 50 years. On May 3, 1901, its charter was extended for 50 years. Its principal office is at Troy, N. Y.
The property was constructed under contract and opened for operation, under lease, on August 1, 1852.
Leased Railway Property
[edit]The property of the Troy and Bennington has been operated since June 30, 1900, by the carrier as lessee through the Fitchburg Railroad. The annual rental is $15,400 and taxes. The present lease, dated August 1, 1877, is perpetual and is held by the carrier as sublessee subject to reversion to the Fitchburg Railroad at the termination of the carrier's lease of the latter's property.
