The railroad of the Tremont & Gulf Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad extending in a southwardly direction from Tremont to Winnfield, La., a distance of 48.237 miles, with a branch line of 18.085 miles extending from Menefee Junction to Rochelle, La., a total of 66.322 miles of main track. The carrier wholly owns and uses 80.355 miles of all tracks, which are classified in the trackage table in Appendix 2. The carrier is an industrial railroad. It reports that during the year 1916 it handled 528,187 tons of freight, of which 500,780 represented products of forests, most of which was received from the Tremont Lumber Company.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated December 18, 1907, for the purpose of acquiring by construction, purchase [?] maintaining and operating, within or without the State of Louisiana, one or more railroad properties, and also of acquiring, maintaining, and operating the railroad then owned by the Tremont & Gulf Railroad. The carrier had one corporate predecessor, the Tremont & Gulf Railroad, which company was incorporated August 18, 1902, under the general laws of the State of Louisiana, the property of which was sold at foreclosure January 18, 1908, and conveyed April 1, 1908, to the carrier.

DEVELOPMENT OT FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The owned mileage of the carrier, amounting to 66.322 miles, was all acquired by purchase from the Tremont & Gulf Railroad, April 1, 1908. The railroad originally acquired from the Tremont & Gulf Railroad amounted to about 76 miles and consisted of the main line extending from Tremont to Winnfield and of a partially completed line extending from Pyburn (then Dodson) to Rochelle, crossing the main line at Menefee Junction. The years when various portions of this property were constructed and the names of the corporations by which or under whose supervision the construction was performed, are located in the following table:
