The railroad of the Tampa & Gulf Coast Railroad Company, herein called the Tampa & Gulf Coast, is a single-track, standard-gage steam railroad, located in the western part of Florida. The owned mileage consists of a main line, extending from Gulf Coast Junction to St. Petersburg, a distance of 47.491 miles, with branches extending to Tarpon Springs, Port Richey, and Indian Beach aggregating 31.765 miles, or a total of 79.256 miles of main track. The Tampa & Gulf Coast also owns 7.217 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 86.473 miles of all tracks owned.
- CORPORATE HISTORY
The Tampa & Gulf Coast was incorporated February 11, 1913, under the General Incorporation Law of the State of Florida.
The purpose of the incorporation was to construct, acquire, and operate a railroad from a point on the Tampa Northern Railroad north of the Hillsborough River to Tarpon Springs, with a branch to Port Richey. The Tampa & Gulf Coast was later authorized to extend the line to St. Petersburg and to construct branches to Indian Rock and to Dunedin.
The date of organization was May 19, 1913.

- INTRODUCTORY
The Tampa and Gulf Coast Railway was a corporation of the State of Florida. The company owned and operated on date of sale, May 19, 1913, about 29 miles of single-track, standard-gage steam railroad, all in Florida. Its main line extended from Lutz, via Lake Fern, to Tarpon Springs, 22 miles, and its branch line extended from Lake Villa to Port Richey. The Tampa and Gulf Coast Railway operated its property with its own organization from the dates acquired until the date of sale.
The accounting records of the Tampa and Gulf Coast Railway covering the period prior to July 1, 1911, were not obtained. On that date new books of account were opened, in which were entered certain amounts stated to be balances transferred from old books. The details of such amounts were not obtained, and for that reason only partial information can be given respecting the company's finances, results of operation, investments, and original cost of property.
