Stamford and Northwestern Railway
[edit]Location and General Description of Property
[edit]The railroad of the Stamford and Northwestern Railway Company, herein called the Stamford and Northwestern, is a single-track line, extending northwesterly from Stamford to Spur, Tex., 82.859 miles.
Introductory
[edit]The Stamford and Northwestern is a corporation of the State of Texas, having its principal corporate office at Stamford, Tex., and its principal business office at Fort Worth, Tex. The Stamford and Northwestern is controlled by the Colorado and Southern through ownership of the entire outstanding capital stock, except directors' shares. On the other hand, the records reviewed do not indicate that this company, itself, controls any common-carrier corporation. The property has been operated under lease by the Wichita Valley Railway since September 15, 1909, when the first section of its road was placed in operation. However, the accounts of the Stamford and Northwestern do not record any income statement prior to February 16, 1910.
Corporate History
[edit]The Stamford and Northwestern was incorporated January 11, 1909, under the general laws of the State of Texas, for the purpose of constructing a railroad from Stamford to a point at or near Plainview, Tex., about 165 miles. The date of its organization was January 13, 1909.
Development of Fixed Physical Property
[edit]The owned mileage, 82.859 miles, was all acquired by construction during the year 1909. The Stamford and Northwestern entered into a contract with The Fidelity Construction Company, an affiliated company, for the construction of its road. The construction company, in turn, sublet the work in connection with grading, bridging, buildings, and fences to P. M. Johnson Son and Allhands.
Leased Railway Property
[edit]The entire property of the Stamford and Northwestern is leased to the Wichita Valley Railway under the terms of a lease extending for a period of five years from February 1, 1908. The terms of the lease and the rental accrued for the year ending on date of valuation are given in the chapter on leased railway property of the report on the Wichita Valley Railway.
