The St. Joseph Terminal Railroad Company, herein called the carrier, owns and operates a freight terminal in the city of St. Joseph, Mo., for the joint use of The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company and The St. Joseph and Grand Island Railway Company. In addition to a freight house and other terminal facilities, the carrier wholly owns and uses 1.047 miles of main track and 10.313 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 11.360 miles of all tracks owned.

It is controlled jointly by The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company and The St. Joseph and Grand Island Railway Company, through ownership by each of one-half of the capital stock. On the other hand, the records do not indicate that the carrier controls any common-carrier corporation. The property has been operated by the carrier's own organization since its acquisition.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated January 5, 1887, under the general laws of the State of Missouri, to construct, maintain, and operate a railroad in the county of Buchanan, Mo. It acquired the property, rights, and franchises of the St. Joseph Terminal Company by deed dated October 18, 1887. That company was incorporated November 8, 1886, under the general laws of the State of Missouri.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The owned property of the carrier, comprising certain structures, 1.047 miles of main track, and 10.313 miles of yard tracks and sidings, was acquired in part by purchase from the St. Joseph & Grand Island Railroad Company, a predecessor of the Santa Fe[sic], and in part by construction. Information as to the portion of such property that was acquired by purchase and the portion that was acquired by construction was not ascertainable from the records reviewed. The property acquired by purchase of the predecessor company consisted of certain right of way upon which no construction work had been performed. The records examined do not indicate whether the portion constructed was built by the forces of the carrier or by others under contract. The property was constructed about 1887. It was placed in operation in December of that year.
