[edit]The property of the San Antonio Belt and Terminal Railway Company, herein called San Antion and Terminal, consisting of tracks and structures comprising terminal facilities at San Antonio and 7.278 miles of first main track.
Introductory
[edit]The San Antonio Belt and Terminal is a corporation of the State of Texas, having its principal office at San Antonio, Tex.
It is controlled by the Missouri, Kansas & Texas Railway Company through ownership of a majority of its outstanding capital stock. On the other hand, the records do not indicate that this company controls any common-carrier corporations.
The property of the San Antonio Belt and Terminal was operated by the Katy of Texas, under an agreement effective April 1, 1916, from September 1, 1917, to December 31, 1917. From that date until date of valuation it has been operated by the United States Railroad Administration as a part of the operating unit of the Katy of Texas.
Corporate History
[edit]The San Antonio Belt and Terminal was incorporated May 2, 1912, under the general laws of the State of Texas, to construct and operate a belt and terminal railway and terminal facilities in and adjacent to the city of San Antonio, Tex. The date of organization of the San Antonio Belt and Terminal was not determined.
Development of Fixed Physical Property
[edit]The establishment of terminals at San Antonio began in August, 1911, when about 25 acres of land at that point was purchased by the Missouri, Kansas & Texas Railway Company from B. F. Yoakum, former president of the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad Company. This land was sold by the Missouri, Kansas & Texas Railway Company to the San Antonio Belt and Terminal in May, 1913. The buildings, tracks, and terminal facilities were constructed under contract dated March 30, 1916, by Thomas and Jones, contractors, and operation by the Katy of Texas commenced September 1, 1917.
Leased Railway Property
[edit]The entire property of the San Antonio Belt and Terminal is leased to the Katy of Texas for a term of 99 years from April 1, 1916. The terms of the lease and the rental accrued for the year ended December 31, 1917, are given in the chapter on leased railway property of the report on the Katy of Texas.
