The property owned and operated by the Saint Joseph Union Depot Company, herein called the carrier, comprises passenger depot facilities at St. Joseph, Mo., including 2.233 miles of yard tracks and sidings. This property is used by the Santa Fe, the Burlington, the Chicago Great Western, the Rock Island, the Missouri Pacific, and the St. Joseph and Grand Island, hereinafter referred to as the tenant companies, under an agreement described elsewhere in this report.
- INTRODUCTORY
The carrier is a corporation of the State of Missouri, having its principal office at St. Joseph, Mo. It is jointly controlled to the extent indicated by six railway companies through ownership of the entire capital stock, as follows: The Burlington, 40 per cent; the Rock Island, 20 per cent; and the Santa Fe, the Chicago Great Western, the Missouri Pacific, and St. Joseph and Grand Island, 10 per cent each.
On the other hand, the records reviewed do not indicate that the carrier controls any other common-carrier corporation. The property of the carrier has been operated by its own organization during its entire life.
- CORPORATE HISTORY
The carrier was incorporated March 22, 1880, in the State of Missouri, for the purpose of constructing and operating a union passenger station and freight depots in the city of St. Joseph, Mo. The date of organization of the carrier was April 7, 1880.
- DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY
The property owned, consisting of a passenger station and 2.233 miles of yard tracks and sidings with other structures thereon, was constructed during the period from 1880 to May 1, 1882. On February 9, 1895, the original depot building was destroyed by fire. Construction of the present structure was completed January 5, 1896.
