The railroad of the Pickering Valley Railroad Company, herein called the Pickering Valley Railroad, is a single-track, standard-gage, steam railroad, located in the eastern part of Pennsylvania. The owned mileage extends southwardly from Phoenixville to Byers, a distance of 11.213 miles. The Pickering Valley Railroad also owns and uses 2.243 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 13.456 miles of all tracks.


CORPORATE HISTORY

The Pickering Valley Railroad was incorporated June 4, 1869, by special act of Pennsylvania approved April 3, 1869. The purpose of incorporation was to construct and operate a railroad between Phoenixville and Byers. The date of organization was June 22, 1869.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The property of the Pickering Valley Railroad was acquired by construction. Work was begun in 1870 by the company forces and on September 20, 1871, the road was opened for operation.
