The railroad of the Philadelphia, Germantown and Norristown Railroad Company, herein called the Philadelphia, Germantown and Norristown, is a double-track line extending from Philadelphia to Germantown, Pa., and from Sixteenth Street Junction, Philadelphia, to Norristown, Pa., a distance of 21.282 miles. From Philadelphia to Wayne Junction the road has four tracks.


CORPORATE HISTORY

The Philadelphia, Germantown and Norristown was incorporated April 5, 1831, by special act of Pennsylvania. It was organized on May 3, 1831.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The mileage owned by the Philadelphia, Germantown and Norristown, amounting to 21.282 miles, was acquired by construction. The main line from Philadelphia to Germantown was completed and opened for operation June 6, 1832. About 5 miles of the branch line was opened for operation on October 18, 1834, and the remainder on August 15, 1835.
