The railroad of the Oneida & Western Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, extending in a southwestwardly direction from Oneida to Acyork, Tenn., a distance of 24.711 miles. The carrier also owns and uses 3.059 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 27.770 miles of all tracks owned.
The carrier is an industrial railroad. It is controlled through ownership of a majority of its capital stock by the Tennessee Stave and Lumber Company.
- CORPORATE HISTORY
The carrier was incorporated October 29, 1912, under the general laws of the State of Tennessee, originally as the Jamestown Railroad Company, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad from Glen Mary to Jamestown, Tenn. On August 5, 1913, its charter was amended changing its name to the Oneida & Western Railroad Company and authorizing the construction of a railroad from Oneida, Tenn., to Albany, Ky., instead of between the points mentioned in the original charter as shown above. The date of organization of the carrier was November 4, 1912.
