The railroad of the Nez Perce & Idaho Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track, standard-gage, steam railroad, located in western Idaho. The main line extends in a general easterly direction from Craigmont to Nez Perce, a distance of 13.418 miles. The carrier also owns 1.613 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 15.031 miles of all tracks owned and used.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated September 12, 1908, under the general laws of Idaho, to acquire a railroad extending from Lewiston to Nez Perce, approximately 74 miles. On April 21, 1915, the carrier sold, and on July 1, 1915, surrendered possession of all of its physical property, to the Lewiston, Nezperce & Eastern Railroad Company, and the rights under its charter were allowed to lapse. On May 21, 1917, its charter rights were reinstated and on June 28, 1917, it reacquired the road Nez Perce to Craigmont, 13.418 miles, from the Lewiston, Nezperce & Eastern Railroad Company. The date of its organization was September 19, 1908.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

February 23, 1909, the carrier purchased right of way and partially graded roadbed from Z. A. Johnson but possession was not taken until February 7, 1910, and completed construction of 13.418 miles of road extending from Nez Perce to Craigmont (formerly Vollmer), Idaho, October 1, 1910. In August 1912 the carrier began construction of a separate line of road from Lewiston to Tammany, Idaho, about 10.89 miles. This section of road was still under construction June 30, 1915, the date its entire property was turned over to the Lewiston, Nezperce & Eastern Railroad Company. June 28, 1917, the carrier reacquired that part of the road extending from Nez Perce to Craigmont, 13.418 miles, by purchase from the Lewiston, Nezperce & Eastern Railroad Company.
