The railroad operated by The Monongahela Connecting Railroad Company, herein called the carrier, is a standard-gauge, steam, switching road, located within in the city limits of Pittsburgh, Pa. The owned property comprises 6.746 miles of first main track, 4.685 miles of second main track, and 27.292 miles of yard tracks and sidings, is located on both sides of the Monongahela River, and includes two important bridges.
- CORPORATE HISTORY
The carrier was incorporated April 1, 1885, under the general laws of the State of Pennsylvania, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad at Pittsburgh, Pa., to be about 3 miles in length and extending across the Monongahela River. The date of organization was April 4, 1885.
- DEVELOPMENT OT FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY
The road owned by the carrier, consisting of 6.746 miles of road located in the city of Pittsburgh, was all acquired by construction which was begun in 1885. Approximately 3.13 miles were opened for operation June 3, 1887. The construction of this portion of the line, which included a bridge over the Monongahela River, was performed mainly by independent contractors. The remaining mileage was constructed subsequently, at various times, by the company's own forces.
