The property of the Missouri and Illinois Bridge and Belt Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, consists of a double-track, steel, railroad bridge across the Mississippi River at Alton, Ill., together with tracks and structures comprising terminal facilities at Alton, Ill., and West Alton, Mo. The carrier owns and uses 3.014 miles of first main track and 1.094 miles of second main track. It also owns and uses 1.244 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 5.352 miles of all tracks owned, which are classified in the trackage table in Appendix 1.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated August 4, 1904, under the general laws of the State of Missouri, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad from a point at or near Ferguson, St. Louis County, to a point of connection with The St. Clair, Madison & St. Louis Belt Railroad Company in St. Charles County, Mo. The date of organization of the carrier was October 7, 1904. The carrier had one predecessor, The St. Clair, Madison & St. Louis Belt Railroad Company, incorporated March 28, 1890, under the general laws of the State of Illinois. The property of the predecessor was conveyed December 13, 1904, to the carrier.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The owned mileage of the carrier, 3.014 miles, was all acquired by purchase from its predecessor, The St. Clair, Madison & St. Louis Belt Railroad Company, and had been constructed for the latter by the Alton Construction Company during the year 1894. The records reviewed do not Indicate to what extent the officials of the Alton Construction Company were affiliated with The St. Clair, Madison & St. Louis Belt Railroad Company.
