The railroad of the Louisiana & Pacific Railway Company, herein called the Louisiana & Pacific, is a single-track, standard-gauge, steam railroad, located in southwestern Louisiana. The line consists of various branches, described below, connecting with the road of the Lake Charles & Northern Railroad Company, and comprising 21.477 miles of main tracks and 9.427 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 30.904 miles of all tracks owned. The De Ridder branch extends from De Ridder Junction easterly to Bundicks (Longacre), La., 8.698 miles, together with sidetracks serving the shops, engine house, and log pond at De Ridder, La. A group of sidetracks at Bon Ami, La., serves the King–Ryder Lumber Company's sawmill. The Longville Branch extends from Longville, La., easterly to Vandercook, La., 5.534 miles, including sidetracks serving the Long–Bell Lumber Company's sawmill and other lumbering industries. The Lake Charles branch extends from Fayette, La., to Camp Curtis, La., 7.245 miles. A group of sidetracks at Lake Charles, La., serves the Calcasieu Long Leaf Lumber Company. The Louisiana & Pacific owns no land, but leases its entire right of way from various lumber companies. The company reaches its disconnected sections of road through trackage rights over the Lake Charles & Northern's line between De Ridder and Bridge Junction (Lake Charles), La., 45 miles. It also has trackage rights from Bundicks to Hoy, La., 6.3 miles. The Louisiana & Pacific is an industrial road, practically all of its freight representing forest products received from The Long–Bell Lumber Company, which is controlled by the same interests as the railroad company.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The Louisiana & Pacific was incorporated August 6, 1904, under the general laws of the State of Louisiana, for the stated purpose of constructing, operating, or leasing and operating a railroad commencing at Bon Ami, Calcasieu Parish, La., and extending easterly through Bon Ami Junction, La.; also to lease and operate steamship lines. The date of organization was June 6, 1904.
