The Kansas City Connecting Railroad Company, herein called the carrier, owns a standard-gauge steam railroad, located on both sides of the Kansas River at Kansas City, Mo., and Kansas City, Kans. The property consists of tracks and structures comprising switching and terminal facilities for the trunk lines serving the Kansas City stockyards. The carrier wholly owns and uses 9.013 miles of yard tracks, of which 2.554 miles are in Missouri and 6.459 miles are in Kansas. It also jointly and equally owns and uses with another carrier 0.016 undivided mile of yard tracks, in Kansas. The carrier is a switching and terminal railroad. It is controlled by the Kansas City Stock Yards Company, whose plants are served by the road.

The property of the carrier was operated by the Kansas City Stock Yards Company from the date of its incorporation until April 30, 1916, and from the latter date to date of valuation by its own organization.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated June 30, 1914, under the general laws of the State of Missouri for the purpose of constructing or otherwise acquiring all yard and switch tracks used or to be used in connection with the Kansas City Stock Yards Company.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

Of the 9.013 miles of wholly owned track, 3.35 miles were acquired by purchase, 2.85 miles from the Kansas City Connecting Railway Company [wholly within Kansas? when was it incorporated?] on October 11, 1915, and 0.5 mile from the Kansas City Stock Yards Company of Missouri on January 31, 1916. The remainder, 5.663 miles, was acquired by construction with the company's own forces.
