[edit]The railroad of the Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railway Company of Texas, herein called the carrier, is a single-track, standard-gauge, steam railroad, located entirely within the State of Texas. The main line extends southwesterly from the Oklahoma-Texas State line at the Red River to Alpine, 464.780 miles, with a branch line projecting from Del Rio Junction to end of track, aggregating in all 467.318 miles of first main track. The carrier also owns 65.093 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 532.411 miles of all tracks owned and used. The carrier forms a part of the Kansas City, Mexico & Orient system. Its main line is the southern link in a through route from Wichita, Kans., to Alpine, Tex.
Introductory
[edit]The carrier is a corporation of the State of Texas, having its principal corporate office at San Angelo, Tex., and its administrative offices at Wichita, Kans. It is controlled by The Kansas City, Mexico & Orient Railroad Company, through ownership of 98.4 per cent of the capital stock. On the other hand, the records do not indicate that the carrier controls any common-carrier corporation. The property of the carrier was operated by its own organization from the date it was placed in operation, October 9, 1905, to March 9, 1912, and from July 8, 1914, to December 31, 1917. It was operated by receivers from March 9, 1912, to July 8, 1914, when the receivership was terminated and the property returned to its owners. From January 1, 1918, to date of valuation it has been operated by the United States Railroad Administration.
Corporate History
[edit]The carrier was incorporated July 20, 1899, under the general laws of the State of Texas, as the Panhandle & Gulf Railway Company, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad from the Oklahoma-Texas State line at the Red River to the Mexican boundary line, about 550 miles. The name was changed on August 23, 1905.

Leased Railway Property
[edit]During the year ended December 31, 1917, none of the property of the carrier was used by others, nor did the carrier use any property of others, except 67 units of equipment, owned by The Kansas City, Mexico & Orient. The records reviewed do not indicate the rental paid for such use.
