[edit]Location and General Description of Property
[edit]The railroad of the Johnston City Southern Railroad Company, hereinafter called the Johnston City Southern, is a single-track line, from Johnston City to Peabody Mine No. 3, 2.688 miles.
The Johnston City Southern is a corporation of the State of Illinois, having its principal office in Chicago, Ill. It was incorporated November 4, 1914, under the general laws of that State, in the interest of the Illinois Central and is controlled by the latter.
The Johnston City Southern owns 2.688 miles of single-track, standard-gage, steam railroad, extending from Oak Ridge to Peabody Mine, Ill., which was constructed by the Illinois Central. Upon completion of the road on January 3, 1915, it was taken over by that company for sole operation, under a lease agreement dated March 6, 1915, for a period of 20 years from January 2, 1915. By the terms of the agreement the Illinois Central maintains the property, pays all taxes, and waives any claim for interest on advances for construction and additions and betterments.
