The railroad of the Indian Valley Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track, standard-gage, steam railroad, located in the northern portion of California. The main line extends in a general northerly direction from Paxton to Engels, a distance of 21.596 miles. The carrier also owns 2.507 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 24.103 miles of all tracks owned and used.

This is an industrial railroad controlled by the Engels Copper Mining Company, owners of copper mines at Engels, served by this carrier.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated June 30, 1916, under general laws of California to construct and operate a railroad from a point on the railroad of The Western Pacific Railroad Company near Keddie Station to a point in Lights Canyon, Plumas County, Calif., known as Engels Lower Camp, a distance of about 26 miles. The date of its organization was July 3, 1916.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The road, all owned, consisting of 21.596 miles extending from Paxton to Engels, Calif., was acquired by construction. The construction work commenced in July, 1916, and was completed September 1, 1917. The grading and other construction work in connection with preparing the roadway for tracklaying was performed under contract by the Utah Construction Company, an unaffiliated company. The bridge across the Feather River was constructed for the carrier by The Western Pacific Railroad Company. Rails, fastenings, and other track material were originally furnished by The Western Pacific Railroad Company under lease agreement; however, in 1921 all such material was purchased by the carrier.
