The railroad of the Houston & Texas Central Railroad Company, herein called the Houston & Texas Central, is a standard-gage, steam railroad, located entirely within Texas. It is single track except for 2.895 miles of double track on the line from Eureka Junction to Stella. The principal main line extends from Houston in a general northerly direction, via Dallas, to Denison. Between Nelleva Junction and Mexia Junction there are two main lines, one via Hearne and Bremond, and the other via Robbins and Jewett. The principal branches extend from Hemstead, via Austin, to Llano; Garrett to Fort Worth; Bremond, via Waco, to Ross; and Hearne to Giddings.
The Houston & Texas Central wholly owns and uses 855.404 miles of first main track, 2.895 miles of second main track, and 279.668 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 1,137.967 miles of all tracks owned, all of which it uses. It jointly and equally owns and uses with other carriers 0.543 mile of yard tracks and sidings, details regarding which are given in the summaries by accounts in Appendix 1.
