The railroad of the Harrisville Southern Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track, standard-gauge steam railroad, located in northwestern West Virginia. The main line extends southeasterly from Cornwallis to Harrisville, a distance of 6.154 miles. The carrier also owns 0.326 mile of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 6.480 miles of all tracks owned and used.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated July 7, 1911, under the general laws of the State of West Virginia, for the purpose of acquiring the property, rights, and franchises of the Harrisville and Cornwallis Railroad Company, which had been incorporated February 28, 1908, under the general laws of the State of West Virginia. The date of organization of the carrier was July 15, 1911. Pursuant to the above purpose, the carrier acquired at its organization the property, rights, and franchises of the railroad corporation named.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The road owned by the carrier, amounting to 6.154 miles, was acquired partly by purchase after foreclosure and partly by construction. The road constructed, 6.154 miles, from Harrisville to Cornwallis, W. Va., was partly constructed by the Harrisville and Cornwallis Railroad Company and completed May, 1915, by the carrier.
