The railroad of Fairchild & North-Eastern Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad located in the west-central part of Wisconsin. The owned mileage extends in a general northeastwardly direction from Cleghorn to Owen, a distance of 65.105 miles. The carrier also owns yard and side tracks totaling 6.361 miles. Its road thus embraces 71.466 miles of all tracks owned.

Corporate history.—The carrier was incorporated July 7, 1898, under section 1820 of the Revised Statutes of the State of Wisconsin. The object of the incorporation was to acquire a constructed railroad owned by the N. C. Foster Lumber Company, and to construct additional miles of railroad. The date of organization of the carrier was not disclosed by the records. Its principal office is located at Fairchild. The detailed facts as to the development of the fixed physical property are given in Appendix 2.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

It could not be definitely determined from the records what part of the carrier's road was purchased from, or what part was built by, the N. C. Foster Lumber Company. The return of the carrier stated that about 22 miles of road were operated by the N. C. Foster Lumber Company as a logging road prior to the date of organization of the carrier.
