The railroad operated by the Erie & Michigan Railway & Navigation Co., herein called the carrier, is a single-track, standard-gauge, steam railroad, located in the northeastern part of the southern peninsula of Michigan. The main line extends southerly from Alabaster Junction to Alabaster, 4.259 miles. The carrier also uses 1.831 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its operated road thus embraces 6.090 miles of all tracks. This mileage includes 1.166 miles of yard tracks and sidings located at Alabaster, which are owned by the carrier. All of the main line mileage and the remaining 0.655 mile of yard tracks and sidings are leased from the Detroit & Mackinac Railway Company.

The carrier was incorporated June 30, 1904, under the general laws of the State of Michigan, for a period of 50 years, for the purpose of constructing, purchasing or leasing, and operating a railroad from Alabaster to Alabaster Junction, Mich., and from Alabaster to Standish, Mich., and to purchase or lease and operate steamboats, barges, and other vessels between the docks at Alabaster, Mich., and other ports without the State of Michigan. The date of organization was June 30, 1904.

The carrier owns no main line mileage. The yard tracks and sidings owned, 1.166 miles, were acquired by purchase from the United States Gypsum Company. The details regarding the construction of these tracks were not obtainable from the records reviewed.
