The railroad of the El Paso Southern Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, located in western Texas. The main line extends from Sixth and San Jacinto Streets, in El Paso, to the international boundary line between the United States and Mexico at the center of the bridge across the Rio Grande, a distance of 0.402 mile. The carrier also owns 2.311 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 2.713 miles of all tracks owned and used. The carrier is controlled by the Mexico Northwestern Railway Company and forms a connection at El Paso, Tex., for a through route into Mexico.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated March 9, 1897, under the general laws of the State of Texas for the purpose of building a line of railroad from the international boundary line at El Paso northerly through that city to a point east of Mount Franklin, Tex. The date of its organization was April 13, 1898.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The owned mileage of the carrier, consisting of 0.402 mile and extending from El Paso, Tex., to the international boundary line between the United States and Mexico, was constructed during 1897 and 1898 and placed in operation in August, 1901. It could not be ascertained whether the property was constructed by forces of the carrier or by the Rio Grande, Sierra Madre and Pacific Railroad Company, a Mexican corporation, and predecessor of the Mexico Northwestern Railway Company.
