The railroad of the East Berlin Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track, standard-gage, steam railroad, located in southeastern Pennsylvania. The main line extends northerly from Berlin Junction to East Berlin, a distance of 7.044 miles. The company also owns 0.270 mile of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 7.314 miles of all tracks owned and used.
- CORPORATE HISTORY
The carrier was incorporated September 8, 1914, under general laws of Pennsylvania for the purpose of acquiring property, rights, and franchise of East Berlin Railway, which was done. It was organized on the same date. The Berlin Branch Rail Road Company, predecessor of East Berlin Railway, was incorporated March 23, 1876, under general laws of Pennsylvania. It was sold at judicial sale on June 1, 1903, and conveyed to the York Trust Company for account of William A. Himes and others by deed dated June 16, 1903, and reorganized July 9, 1903, as East Berlin Railway. The East Berlin Railway was incorporated July 9, 1903, under general laws of Pennsylvania. It was sold at judicial sale on July 18, 1914, and conveyed to William G. Leas, by deed dated August 10, 1914, and reorganized September 8, 1914, as East Berlin Railroad. Sometime subsequent to the latter date its charter was forfeited and ouster proceedings instituted by court order for failure to operate the property. On January 12, 1916, the court rescinded its decree and the property was again placed in operation on May 27, 1916.
