The railroad of the Detroit, Caro and Sandusky Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track, standard-gage, steam railroad, located in the thumb of the State of Michigan, extending from Caro to Roseburg, a distance of 48.572 miles. The carrier also owns 7.117 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 55.689 miles of all tracks owned and used.

The carrier uses under trackage rights certain yard tracks at Caro, Mich., owned by The Michigan Central Railroad Company, and grants to The Pontiac, Oxford and Northern Railroad Company trackage rights over its connecting tracks at Wilmot, Mich.

The carrier also uses, under agreements, industrial tracks, extending from Caro to Bay City, Mich., a distance of about 29 miles, formerly a part of the line of railroad of Detroit, Bay City & Western Railroad Company, now owned jointly by A. L. Mills and John R. Gray. Such use is incidental and for intrastate movements only, the traffic consisting of transportation of gravel for highway construction and sugar beets for nearby refineries during the harvesting season. The value of tracks and facilities forming this line of railroad is not included herein.


CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated May 28, 1925, under the general laws of Michigan, to purchase a part of the property formerly owned by the Detroit, Bay City & Western Railroad Company. The date of its organization was March 28, 1925.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The road, all owned, extending from Caro to Roseburg was purchased from individuals who had acquired it at the foreclosure sale of the property of the Detroit, Bay City & Western Railroad Company on March 28, 1925. The mileage acquired had been constructed for the Detroit, Bay City & Western Railroad Company by the Bay County Construction Company, as follows: In 1912, Caro to Wilmot, 11.140 miles; in 1913, Wilmot to Snover, 11.290 miles; in 1914, Snover to Sandusky, 7.730 miles; in 1915, Sandusky to Peck, 10.940 miles, and about 1916, Peck to Roseburg, 7.472 miles.
