The railroad of the Cornwall Railroad Company, herein called the carrier, is a partly double-track, standard-gauge, steam railroad, extending southwardly from West Lebanon to Mount Hope, Pa., 11.476 miles, of which 6.160 miles are double tracked. The carrier also wholly owns and uses 14.352 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 31.988 miles of all tracks.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated May 25, 1850, under the general railroad laws of Pennsylvania. The incorporation was also authorized by a special act of the Legislature of Pennsylvania, approved April 2, 1850. The carrier was originally incorporated under the name of The North Lebanon Railroad Company, which was changed to Cornwall Railroad Company by a special act of the Legislature of Pennsylvania, approved April 5, 1870. The carrier acquired by merger on October 15, 1886, the property, rights, and franchises of The Cornwall and Mount Hope Rail Road Company, which had been incorporated August 11, 1883, under the general railroad laws of Pennsylvania.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The owned mileage of the carrier, 11.476 miles, was acquired partly through construction and partly through merger. That part of the railroad extending from West Lebanon to near Cornwall, about 6 miles, was constructed by the company in 1854; that part extending from near Cornwall to Mount Hope, about 5 miles, was acquired on October 15, 1886, through merger from the Cornwall and Mount Hope, which had constructed it during 1883 and 1884.
