Location and general description of property.—The railroad of Chicago Short Line Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a standard-gauge steam-operated switching railroad in the Calumet district, Chicago, Ill. The owned property consists of three widely disconnected units, which are reached by trackage rights over other railroads. The carrier owns and uses 1.122 miles of first main track, 0.318 mile of second main track, and 6.172 miles of yard tracks and sidings, or a total of 7.612 miles of all tracks. A more complete description of the property will be found in Appendix 1. The carrier is an industrial railroad. The stockholders of the Steel and Tube Company of America, the principal industry which it serves, control it through ownership of about 80 per cent of the outstanding capital stock.
- ROAD
The railroad owned by the carrier is made up of three separate units, as follows:
Unit No. 1 consists of 0.559 mile of first main track and 0.318 mile of second main track, extending from a connection with the tracks of the Steel and Tube Company of America at East Ninety-Fourth Street and Kreiter Avenue, to a connection with the line of The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company, at East Ninety-eighth Street and Avenue N, together with a switching yard between East Ninety-fifth Street and East Ninety-eighth Street.
Unit No. 2 consists of switching and team tracks serving the By-Products Coke Corporation between East One hundred and fourteenth Street and East One hundred and tenth Street near Torrence Avenue.
Unit No. 3 consists of 0.503 mile of main track paralleling the New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad Company's main line tracks at Stony Island Avenue near East Ninety-fifth Street.
These separate units are reached by trackage rights over other railroads as follows:

The carrier was incorporated December 8, 1900, under the general laws of the State of Illinois, for the purpose of constructing a railroad between certain points in Chicago and vicinity.
- DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY
The owned mileage of the carrier, amounting to 1.122 miles, was acquired in part by purchase from the Iroquois Iron Company and in part by construction. No information was obtained as to the mileage constructed or acquired by purchase. In addition to the above, the carrier acquired certain yard tracks, sidings, and equipment from the Calumet, Hammond & Southeastern Railroad Company. The land on which these yard tracks and sidings are located is not owned by the carrier.
