The railroad of Carlton & Coast Railroad Company, hereinafter referred to as the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, situated in the northwestern part of the State of Oregon, extending from Carlton to Tillamook Gate, a distance of 13.841 miles. The carrier also owns 2.603 miles of yard tracks and sidings, or a total of 16.444 miles of all tracks.

Corporate history.—The carrier was incorporated on February 24, 1910, under the general laws of the State of Oregon, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad and telegraph and telephone line from Carlton in a general westerly direction to Fairdale, both in Yamhill County, and thence in a westerly direction to a point on Tillamook Bay, Tillamook County, Oreg. The carrier's principal office is at Carlton, Oreg. The carrier's property was constructed by the Carlton Consolidated Lumber Company, under contract dated April 16, 1910. Grading was commenced in about July, 1910, and the road was placed in operation on July 1, 1912.
