The railroad of the Big Sandy & Kentucky River Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, located in eastern Kentucky. The main line extends southwesterly from Dawkins to Riceville, a distance of 9.229 miles. The company also owns 0.917 mile of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 10.146 miles of all tracks owned and used. Nearly all of the rail and part of the fastenings in the tracks are leased from The Chesapeake and Ohio Railway Company.

The carrier was incorporated September 10, 1912, under the general laws of the state of Kentucky, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad within that State.
