Location and General Description of Property

The railroad of the Beaumont and Great Northern Railroad Company, herein called the Beaumont and Great Northern, extending from Weldon to Livingston, 48.384 miles.

Introductory

The Beaumont and Great Northern is a corporation of the State of Texas, having its principal office at Dallas, Tex.

It is controlled by the Missouri, Kansas & Texas Railway Company through ownership of a majority of its outstanding capital stock. On the other hand, the records do not indicate that this company controls any common-carrier corporation.

The property of the Beaumont and Great Northern was operated by its own organization from the date it was placed in operation to May 1, 1914. From this date to December 31, 1917, it was operated by the Katy of Texas, and from January 1, 1918, to date of valuation, it has been operated by the United States Railroad Administration as a part of the operating unit of the Katy of Texas.

Corporate History

The Beaumont and Great Northern was incorporated June 22, 1905, under the general laws of the State of Texas, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad from Trinity to Livingston, Tex. The articles of incorporation were amended March 1, 1910, providing for an extension from Trinity, northwesterly, to Jewett, Tex. The date of organization of the Beaumont and Great Northern was not determined.

The owned mileage of the Beaumont and Great Northern, 48.384 miles, was all acquired by construction. The years when the various portions of the line were constructed are indicated in the following statement.

Leased Railway Property

The entire property of the Beaumont and Great Northern is leased to the Katy of Texas for a term of 99 years from May 1, 1914. The terms of the lease and the rental accrued for the year ended on December 31, 1917, are given in the chapter on leased railway property of the report on the Katy of Texas.
