Location and general description of property.—The railroad of the Bamberg, Ehrhardt and Walterboro Railway, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, located in South Carolina, extending from a connection with the line of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Company at Ehrhardt, northwesterly to Bamberg, a distance of 14.006 miles. The carrier also owns 1.180 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 15.186 miles of all tracks owned.


The property of the carrier was operated from May 2, 1915, the date acquired, to December 1, 1916, by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Company, as agent. Since the latter date it has been operated by its own organization.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated May 15, 1913, under a special act of Legislature of the State of South Carolina. The date of organization of the carrier has not been ascentained from the records reviewed.

DEVELOPMENT Of FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The owned mileage of the carrier amounting to 14 miles of main track, wns acquired by construction. The road was placed in operation May 2, 1915. The material used in the construction of the road, except the rail which is owned by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Company, was furnished by the Ajax Construction Company which also performed the construction work under contract. The Ajax Construction Company is controlled by the officers of the carrier.
