The railroad of the Alameda Belt Line, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track, standard-gage, steam railroad, located within the city of Alameda, Calif. The main line extends from a connection with the Southern Pacific Company track near Broadway and Clement Avenue to near Webster Street, a distance of 3.019 miles. The carrier also wholly owns 8.763 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 11.782 miles of all tracks wholly owned and used. In addition, it jointly owns with the Southern Pacific Company 0.566 undivided mile of yard tracks and sidings.
The carrier is jointly controlled by The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company and The Western Pacific Railroad Company. Its property is operated as a switching medium between various industries located along the Alameda water front and connecting trunk lines.
- CORPORATE HISTORY
The carrier was incorporated January 12, 1925, under laws of California for the purpose of acquiring railroad property owned by the city of Alameda, constructing extensions thereof and operating such railroad to serve the industrial area and water front of said city. It was organized January 20, 1925.
- DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY
February 17, 1926, the carrier purchased about 1.20 miles of completed standard-gage railroad tracks from the city of Alameda, Calif., which had been constructed by the city in 1918.
During 1926 and 1927 the carrier constructed extensions aggregating 11.148 miles. The 12.348 miles of all tracks includes 0.566 mile of jointly owned sidings.
