A very large proportion of articles in this general subject area are stubs (especially those on minor figures), but few of them are marked as such in any way, due to a lack of a stub type for them. Those that are, generally have either a {{WikiProject Folklore|class=Stub}}
on the talk page (268 so far, from a rather inactive project), or have an over-general stub tag in the article (e.g. {{England-stub}}
or whatever), or a misleading one ({{England-history-stub}}
, {{England-noble-stub}}
, etc.). I've looked through various relevant categories, and am not seeing an appropriate extant stub type. While we do have Category:Mythology stubs ({{Mythology-stub}}
) and its subcats, they are both too specific and too unspecific: they're for mythological topics proper (gods and other subjects from religio-spiritual oeuvres); and they do not drill down very precisely, being divided by major cultural grouping only. Folklore is a broad topic, encompassing legendary and quasi-historical figures, folk remedies, traditional fairytales and other folktales, folk arts traditions, etc. And it often tends toward a geographical distribution, so there's no clear way to get at English folklore in the mythology tree, because the European branch of it's broken up into Celtic, Greek, Ancient Roman, and "Norse" (which is arguably an error – should be Germanic, with Norse as a subset along with some sibling categories). I suppose one would default to classifying English as Germanic, though it is culturally a mixture. And there's no proper place for British as a catch-all for that region, since even if you classify English as Germanic, most of the rest of Britain is historically Celtic. But labelling something that is Welsh or Scottish only as culturally Celtic and not geographically British may hide, for a reader, a close relationship of that material to nearby English material. Definitely in folklore, if not so much in mythology as such. However, quite a number of stubs in the mythology tree really belong in this proposed folklore one, as they are not connected to mythology per se, and people have been using that stub cat. out of lack of something that fits better.
I think this should be divided, like the mythology tree, continentally to start with. But then both culturally and nationally. My immediate desire is for the following:
- Folklore stubs
- European folklore stubs
- Folklore stubs by culture (container cat.)
- Celtic folklore stubs
- Germanic folklore stubs
- Folklore stubs by nationality (container cat.)
- British folklore stubs
- Cornish folklore stubs
- English folklore stubs
- Manx folklore stubs
- Scottish folklore stubs
- Welsh folklore stubs
- Irish folklore stubs
- British folklore stubs
Something like Scottish would be a subcat of both British (geographical) and Celtic (cultural), and so on.
Just by looking at other stub category trees, we can see what structure will be needed for both cultural division (e.g., see the language and music and religion stub cats.), and geographical division (e.g. look at cats. for places, law, government). I think the history stub cats are already dually divided this way.
There is probably much more room for precise subdivision here than under mythology, as much folklore is rather localized and has become more so just over the last 500 years (and there's more folklore than there is mythology), whereas the pagan mythology of, say, the Scots and the Irish was essentially the same, and it didn't vary all that much in key figures, other than their name spellings, from Brythonic (Welsh, Cornish, etc.). I see in Category:Celtic mythology stubs only 213 pages. Even if, say 175 of those really are mythology stubs and not folklore ones, it becomes clear that most of the possible articles in this topic are already pretty well developed and are no longer stubs. But the amount of folklore topics that could qualify – from specific probably-not-historical figures and places and creatures, to specific folkloric works or whatever – is a much broader pool of material. E.g., in Category:Arthurian characters alone (and subscats thereof) there are over 300 articles, and many of them are stubs. Have a look in Category:English folklore, which has what seems to be a few thousand articles after you wade through subcategories. Quite a few of those will be stubs.
Having a folklore stub tree also would help break up big "[Countryname] stubs" categories, and clean up stuff mis-sub-categorized (e.g. legendary locations tagged with [Countryname]-geo-stub), or simply not stub-tagged at all. I'm also keeping mind that the main functional purpose of fine stub categorization is stub sorting for wikiproject attention, and that tends to go national more than cultural.

Now each state has a county template, I would like to propose the following areas based on [[1]] map:
- Category:Atlanta Metropolitan Area geography stubs
- Category:North Georgia geography stubs
- Category:Southwest Georgia geography stubs
- Category:Southeast Georgia geography stubs
- Category:Coastal Georgia geography stubs
- Category:Central Savannah River Area geography stubs
- Category:Central Georgia geography stubs
From the map the Chattahoochee Valley area would only have 34 articles. I have not included the (U.S. State) after Georgia in the category names as the articles describing these areas do not have them. A break down of the counties by area can be seen here. Waacstats (talk) 22:07, 18 October 2020 (UTC)
- The article title don't use (U.S. state), but the categories and stub categories do, so I suggest the proposed names include it as well. (See Category:Georgia (U.S. state) geography stubs.) Her Pegship (?) 19:18, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
- I may not have been clear in what I meant, we have an article at Georgia (U.S. state) and the categories follow suit with for example the stub category you mentioned, however the articles for the regions are North Georgia, Southwest Georgia, Southeast Georgia, Coastal Georgia and Central Georgia none of which use (U.S. state) so I would not expect categories relating to those having the {U.S. state). Waacstats (talk) 22:06, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
- nb I have changed the two Southern categories from South East Georgia and South West Georgia to Southeast Georgia and Southwest Georgia to match the articles. Waacstats (talk) 10:37, 24 October 2020 (UTC)

How can we have so many parties having more than 800 stub articles!. This time we are in Mexico It looks the majority of these politicians are from the federal level so I suggest which has a little overlap:
- {{Mexico-senator-InstitutionalRevolutionary-stub}} - Category:Institutional Revolutionary senator stubs - 153 per petscan
- {{Mexico-deputy-InstitutionalRevolutionary-stub}} - Category:Institutional Revolutionary deputy stubs - 898 per petscan
next step would probably be a by state or dob split but I suggest we wait and see if these figures are correct first.Waacstats (talk) 20:59, 4 October 2020 (UTC)

Category:South Korean railway station stubs is oversized at 838 while Category:South Korea rapid transit stubs is getting large at 656. Per a quick play on petscan 615 articles are tagged with both templates. I know we normally split train stations by geography and rapid transit by system but does anyone have a problem with:
This might clear existing South Korea rapid transit and the Seoul metro might not have many articles, but the sub cat should have 600+ articles. Waacstats (talk) 20:59, 4 October 2020 (UTC)

Category:Year stubs is oversized, I can't find a country with 60 articles so I propose
with some of the current categories being moved to these where necessary. Waacstats (talk) 20:59, 4 October 2020 (UTC)
