July 2005 discoveries

[edit]

Serbia-stub (and its category, Serbia-related stubs). Looks to be well used... the one minor niggle with this is that the geographical equivalent is SM-geo-stub (Serbia and Montenegro geography stubs), which therefore covers the whole federation. Grutness...wha? 01:35, 12 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Added to WP:WSS/ST by User:ZeroOne today. Used by ~20 articles. Both apparently created by User:MediaWiki default on the 28th. I'm not quite sure what's going on there. --TheParanoidOne 19:27, 31 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Agronomy-stub

[edit]

Hey everyone - Im very much a newbie and a lurker so I hope I do this right. Someones just added Template:Agronomy-stub to the list of stubs. It looks like it doesnt go to a seperate category. Does it need fixing? BL Lacertae 10:06, 24 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It does indeed have a category: Agronomy stubs. It was just added to the list badly.
However it does need "fixing" (after a fashion) because it was created today by User:Germen without going through the procedure listed above. Quite frankly, I'm not sure if it's even needed.
It is currently used on two articles (both created by Germen). The bucket chosen for the list (<100) made me think there might have been more.
I will remove it from the list for the moment. --TheParanoidOne 12:07, 24 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

August 2005 discoveries

[edit]

Plus the associated category: Category:El Salvador broadcasting stubs. Brought to us by the same troublesome editor (ronald20 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) who brought us {{OCTA-stub}}. The stub is used on exactly one article currently. Because of other edits, I've reported the editor to WP:VIP several times, but he still hasn't been blocked or banned. BlankVerse 14:18, 1 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The same editor has now created Template:Guatemala-bcast-stub (links, talk) along with Category:Guatemala broadcasting stubs, and will probably work their way through all of Central America. Unfortunately it won't do any good to leave a message on their talk page because they never respond to their talk page messages. BlankVerse 21:22, 6 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

As I know BlankVerse is aware, Ronald20 is a pain of the magnitude of Maoririder as far as failing to understand wiki procedures is concerned. Watch out for more "help" from this contributor. Grutness...wha? 00:48, 7 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently means the Royal Air Force. Created in May, has 8 articles. Might be able to get enough articles; {{mil-stub}} is rather large. The category isn't placed anywhere in the stub hierarchy tho. --Mairi 00:18, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Not entirely unabiguous, though I doubt there'd be many stubs for the Red Army Faction, and I suspect that RAF is knowen internationally to mean the Royal Air Force. Probably a useful category to have, though I don't know enough about what mil-stubs there are to really judge that accurately. Grutness...wha? 02:12, 25 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Only just noticed this one, was coming here to list it. This has in the meantime grown to 28 articles, and actually has quite a few more that could be included, so I think we might as well keep this one. When we create UK-mil-stub, this would obviously become a sub-cat. Alai 19:52, 22 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, this one already has 138 articles. Conscious 12:50, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
There's also discussion on Proposals about whether to use abbreviations for the name of the military branch, or country-based names. --Mairi 15:14, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I started merrily populating this shortly after my earlier comment. Fairly well-defined in this case, I think, and a feasible alternative name with similar scope doesn't readily suggest itself. Now a sub-cat of UK-mil-stub. Alai 02:49, 2 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Horribly long name (the corresponding geo stub is {{SM-geo-stub}}); used on only 4 articles and created out of process apparently. --Mairi 03:47, 24 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

note that we recently also had {{Serbia-stub}} on this page. We clearly don't need both. IMO this could be redirected to SM-stub, but I suspect that that wouldn't be a wise move because of, erm, other possible meanings of that term! The spaces in the name are wrong though: {{SerbiaMontenegro-stub}} might be a better name if it's kept. Grutness...wha? 02:12, 25 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Created today by User:80.255. Added to Invertebrate stubs by User:Stemonitis. Only used on 11 articles. Might possibly have enough stubs eventually, but {{crustacean-stub}} would be preferable as per the discussion at WP:WSS/P. --TheParanoidOne 20:55, 24 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Redirect? Grutness...wha? 02:12, 25 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds reasonable. I intend to create crustacean-stub in a few days. Once that's been done, I'll redirect this. --TheParanoidOne 05:19, 25 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
{{Crustacean-stub}} would be good, but if you want to split {{invertebrate-stub}}, it would be best to do it consistently. I would suggest at least {{worm-stub}} (massively polyphyletic but perhaps better than nothing) and {{mollusc-stub}} alongside {{crustacean-stub}}.
One step at a time, ;) --TheParanoidOne 19:20, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Which i moved from {{Perthstub}}, since we don't need any more oddly-named Australian city stubs (Auscitystubs). Probably worth keeping, and fixing up the category, mostly because there's a Perth WikiProject. --Mairi 04:50, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

September 2005 discoveries

[edit]

Created a couple weeks ago, has 34 articles. Not sure how many more there are. Also, the category name ought to be changed. --Mairi 01:51, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a wikiproject for it? Grutness...wha? 07:30, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, there doesn't appear to be. --Mairi 08:41, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see this on the stub list. It was made on July 10th by User:Project2501a, and has 3 articles Salsb 02:58, 14 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Very unlikely to get 50 articles. Category:Cigars has less than ten articles. We don't even have a generalised tobacco stub (would one be useful, perhaps?). Grutness...wha? 04:27, 14 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Not proposed, created in the past day, used on 12 articles. Category needs stub category parents, and preferable a rename. --Mairi 04:42, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

And its redirect {{Mass-stub}}, which could likely be deleted (Massachusetts-stub was originally the redirect, but I swapped them). Created 4 days ago, used on 7 articles; there is a Wikipedia:WikiProject Massachusetts. --Mairi 04:42, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It seems like it could get populated decently, especially if there's a project... --Alynna 15:40, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Created 2 days ago, but used on 86 articles. Looks properly done. I've went ahead and added it to WP:WSS/ST. --Mairi 16:55, 25 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Movement of {{electro-stub}}

[edit]

Electro-stub has been moved to {{electron-stub}}, based on the mention at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Electronics. Would've been nice if they'd gone thru normal procedures, or atleast told us. I don't particularly care for the new name, as it makes me think the stub is about electrons, altho the old name was vague. --Mairi 03:31, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

ISTR that when this one was first created the name electron-stub was suggested and rejected for exactly that reason. Certainly electron-stub is a far worse name than electro-stub. I'd be very tempted to move it back. Grutness...wha? 07:00, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Either that, or it can go thru SFD to be moved back... --Mairi 02:44, 28 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

September 2005 discoveries

[edit]

Originally created as {{Tv-char stub}}, but I moved it to the standard hyphenation. A most interesting wording, and has a category redlink. Created yesterday, used on 1 article. Could have enough use, tho.. --Mairi 06:23, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This one could well be very useful. The wording is based on that on {{Soap-char-stub}}, which I've always thought was a bit odd anyway. Soap-char-stub would be a natural subcat for this one, too. Grutness...wha? 08:22, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I went ahead and created the category, and standardized the wording on {{tv-char-stub}}... --Mairi 22:33, 6 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Created about an hour ago, for Phillipine literature. Used on 18 articles, all of which appear to be Filipino writers. --Alynna 13:36, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Phil-lit-stub would be for literature about philosophy, according to the names we've used in the past. Phillipines writer stubs should get Phillipines-writer-stub, if anything at all. In other words, if this one's to be kept, it needs a drastic re-name. Grutness...wha? 13:47, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
We definitely need something for the Philippines. As I've discovered while recatting the Actor stubs, the is no {{Asia-stub}}, {{SEAsia-stub}}, {{Philippines-stub}}, {{Asia-bio-stub}}, {{SEAsia-bio-stub}}, or {{Philippines-bio-stub}} to use to provided additional specificity to Philippines related general or bio stubs. As of my last survey there were 10 Philippines actor stubs, so that's already 28 found stubs that would merit a Philippines bio stub without even looking specifically for the Philippines. Caerwine 23:09, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure why but the stubs marked with this all seem to be in Category:stubs. BL Lacertae 23:32, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I noticed that too, I thought it was some technical thing about the stub template --Alynna 03:15, 6 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hooo boy. You should see the history of that template. Stubs marked with it could be in any of five different categories, one of which doesn't exist! It must have only fed into its current category after all those stubs were marked with it. Null-edits will be needed on them all if this is kept. Grutness...wha? 06:27, 6 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
A Philippines bio stub sounds like a good idea. There will probably be enough to populate it, if there aren't already... --Alynna 03:21, 6 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Created today, unused, lacks a category. Nor does there appear to be a wikiproject. --Mairi 02:17, 6 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

While we were busy dealing with Tasmania and South Australia, someone decided to be helpful by completing the set. About 55 stubs, which is OK, so this can probably survive. It was correctly formatted, but with a redlinked category (which I've fixed). The parent category now only has three unsorted stubs, BTW - one which covers fivce states, one for the tiny Jervis Bay Territory (perhaps this should go in with ACT?) and one on subantarctic Heard Island. Grutness...wha? 00:17, 9 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oops. Sorry - I didn't know about this project (I'm a newbie here). Hope this template won't be a problem... there seemed to be ones for everywhere else in Australia... I'll come here first in future. Je suis le tenebreux 00:19, 9 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Created at Burkina-Faso-Stub, which I moved to the more standard name. Lacks a category. Skeptical that it's needed; it's currently unused... --Mairi 19:38, 10 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, if geo-stub tallies are any guide, it wouldn't even rank in the top ten countries in west Africa in terms of stub numbers! Mond you, as I've mentioned at WP:WSS/P, splitting off separate regional stubs for Africa to match the geo-stub equivalents (AfricaW-stub, for instance) might be useful. I don't see any use for a separate BurkinaFaso-stub. though. Grutness...wha? 00:31, 11 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Needs a bit more renaming that we thought! see my comments on this one at WP:SFD! Grutness...wha? 00:11, 16 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Created today, as was the corresponding wikiproject. Has a category redlink, and is unused. The stub could also be renamed to {{NewHampshire-stub}}. --Mairi 05:03, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, given that there's a wikiproject it's probably keepable, in which case fixing the template name and category ASAP is probably the best thing to do... Grutness...wha? 05:43, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I've moved it to the new name and created a category for it (without the "-related" part). I've also left a note about it at the WikiProject. I'll take the original name over to sfd now. Grutness...wha? 06:08, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Created today and added to WP:WSS/ST. Looks well formed, used on 45 articles. --Mairi 04:31, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Created 2 months ago, used on 1 article. Has a category redlink. Abit too specialized... --Mairi 19:50, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah - that's probably sfd material. Grutness...wha? 00:00, 16 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Created today, unused. Has category redlink. Almost certainly useful, given the size of {{US-politician-stub}}. --Mairi 04:40, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

There are now over 100 articles with California-politician-stub and I'm only about half-way through populating it. I've been using various list articles (e.g. List of Governors of California) as my starting point, and I've been surprised that several of the very short articles had no stub templates. Quite a few of the articles had the bio-stub or poli-stub templates, so I haven't been making that big a dent in the American politician stub category. A large number of the articles that I've looked at are borderline stubs (seven to thirteen sentences), which made me wish that there was a post-stub classification for articles. I'd rather not start adding the expand template to hundreds of articles, but that's the current "solution" for those short, but no longer stub, articles. BlankVerse 04:08, 23 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

And the redirect at it's former location, {{TX-politician-stub}}. Lacks a category. Again, probably useful. --Mairi 04:51, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Keep it, and give it a category... but lose the redirect. Grutness...wha? 06:56, 18 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

For a state in India. Created today, used on 2 articles. --Mairi 05:54, 19 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Same as the previous one, only used on 3 articles.

Given the size of {{India-geo-stub}}, both these are probably worth keeping. Would've been nice if this were handled on Proposals first, tho (and I've left the creator of them a note to that effect). --Mairi 05:54, 19 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Personally, I'm quite pleased that someone else has taken the initiative on India... saves me some work, especially if they populate them as well ;) Grutness...wha? 06:56, 19 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
