July 2005 discoveries

[edit]

Added to WP:WSS/ST today by User:John Abbe. Category and template created by the same user and contains one article. (The template was actually created while I was writing this!). This category also seems to belong to the redlink Category:Systems Thinking category. --TheParanoidOne 22:28, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure whether to comment much on this one, since I haven't the faintest idea what the category name means. Looks like it may be connected with AI, but also with zoology and psychology and... do we need this one? Grutness...wha? 02:40, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Right, systems thinking is inter-disciplinary. This arose because i saw stigmergy categorized in biology, which is clearly insufficient as most of the recent interest in the term is outside the realm of biology. There are many articles on Wikipedia that would fit in the category of systems thinking - e.g. systems, emergence, complex systems, cybernetics. I was surprised the category didn't exist yet. Whether or not i get around to tagging them all, someone will/should, and the stub template will be handy. --John Abbe
None of the articles you mentioned appear to be stub articles though, so they wouldn't be tagged as such. So while a general category for this subject might be appropriate, a stub type seems a little premature. --TheParanoidOne 09:46, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
In any case, that's what multiple stubbing's for. If it applies to computers as well as biology, give it both stubs. Grutness...wha? 12:48, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

August 2005 discoveries

[edit]

This one seemed obvious enough that I decided to be bold and create it. At a glance, more than half of the ~260 articles with {{dk-stub}} could use this, plus many more from {{bio-stub}}. —PrologFan {Talk} 21:02, 2 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Seems like a fairly obvious one. If it lowers the load on dk-stub, maybe that can then go for renaming more easily, too. Grutness...wha? 01:13, 3 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Brilliant. A wikipedian decides to ignore the long-established {{Hawaii-stub}} and create a totally separate one with the unlikely name of HI-stub. I've redirected this one to the older one (which needed a bit of fixing anyway). HI-stub should almost certainly be taken to sfd. Not only is it an ambiguous name but it's hardly an easily guessable one (why HI??? Surely the usual abbreviation for Hawaii is HW?) Grutness...wha? 14:34, 3 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Properly created, with category (altho I clarified the text and changed the parent categories...), but without any apparent debate on /Proposals, with the exception of a mention at /Proposals#anthropology-stub; also not listed on the stub list. Could probably get enough articles, tho. --Mairi 22:41, 5 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Another Ronald20 (talk · contribs) creation (#4). There is no category, and no article currently has the stub. The stub, if used, would have some overlap with the already created {{LACMTA-stub}}, but I think neither of the stubs will have enough articles to justify their existence and therefore should be deleted. BlankVerse 04:44, 10 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Personally, i don't see much use for either, but there is a South california wikiproject and LACMTA has at least got some articles - and a category. This latest one, though... hit it on the head before it injures someone. Grutness...wha? 04:52, 10 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
As a participant in the SoCal WikiProject, I say delete both of them. The articles with LACMTA-stub can be double-stubbed with the new SoCal geo stub plus the metro-stub (the later probably being the more important stub since it seems to be mostly NY metro enthusiasts who have been creating and editing the LACMTA station articles).
re: Ronald20: I just left a message on his Talk page about creating new stubs, although I doubt that it will do any good. BlankVerse 05:27, 10 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Other than the name (apparently JNB is the airport code for the main airport there...), looks to be useful and worth keeping, with 300-some articles. --Mairi 00:18, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

True, but man oh man could that template do with a rename! I think I'll be bold and move it to Johannesburg-stub. Grutness...wha? 01:14, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I've also changed the category parent from Category:South Africa-related stubs to Category:South Africa geography stubs, since everything in there is either a geo-stub or a struct-stub. Grutness...wha? 01:24, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Has 49 articles, all are about stations. No linked category until I added it to category:Singapore MRT stubs just now. — Instantnood 06:51, August 17, 2005 (UTC)

Badly formatted name ({{Singapore-metro-stub}} would be far better) and all the articles will need null edits. Sigh. Grutness...wha? 05:51, 18 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
MRT is the name of the metro system in Singapore. By the way the template has been edited by another user to link to category:Mass Rapid Transit (Singapore) stubs. 23 articles are now displayed in this category. — Instantnood 09:51, August 18, 2005 (UTC)
No doubt it is - but, like all of the other rapid transit systems (all of which have misnamed stub types, IMO, it would make more sense if the stub template had a more consistent name. I'd far prefer the london underground stub template to be called London-metro-stub than its current LUL-stub, for instance, eben though I know that no-one in London talks of the metro (it's the tube). As it is, I';ve tidied up the template a bit (adding the hyphen to at least keep it in line with stub naming guidelines and moving the category back to your original name for it). I've also created the category and started on the neecessary edits to make the articles actually appear in it. Grutness...wha? 10:14, 18 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

4 articles. — Instantnood 16:38, August 17, 2005 (UTC)

Now redirected to road stub and orphaned. Grutness...wha? 05:48, 18 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

{{Scarface-stub}} / (no category)

[edit]

From the same editor who created {{Hot Jewish Actress-stub}}, Wiki brah (t c). I think that this editor may be another potential Ronald20 or Maoririder. BlankVerse 09:58, 24 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Allez au la page du deletion! Grutness...wha? 02:12, 25 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Created today by User:80.255. Added to Invertebrate stubs and Insect stubs by User:Stemonitis. Only used on 4 articles. This stub is far too specific. It doesn't cover wasps (which might have been a reasonable split) but a specific type of wasp. --TheParanoidOne 20:55, 24 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

SFD material, I suspect. Grutness...wha? 02:12, 25 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
