WAN-IFRA

[edit]
  • "WAN-IFRA WPT 2019" (PDF). World Press Trends 2019. WAN-IFRA.

For List of newspapers by circulation. The World Association of Newspapers (WAN-IFRA) publishes a worldwide newspaper circulation report, including the top selling newspapers, these are not public. The latest report that I have been able to find is the 2016 one (see article) which contains details on the top 20 such newspapers. While I located the 2019 one as well ([1]) this version does not contain circulation figures, though a headline "Average daily unit circulation print" indicates that it was perhaps contained separately, also further confirmed by this press release. But I have been unable to fully access these 2019 figures, if someone can help it would really help in updating the article.

Dagbladet — Norway

[edit]

Has someone have full access to Dagbladet archives? I need a full picture of these articles 1, 2 and 3

--Apoxyomenus (talk) 21:45, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Apoxyomenus I can see about getting access to them through the National Library's archives later today or tomorrow. They should be available there. ArcticSeeress (talk) 05:05, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I currently have access to the articles, but I do not feel comfortable sharing full scans of the pages, as I have only gotten permission to look at the material given that I only use it for research and documentation purposes. I'm fairly certain sharing it online is not covered by that. If it's the data itself you're looking for, then I could always just write that here. ArcticSeeress (talk) 08:25, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ArcticSeeress I'm need to confirm if those are year-end sales and year-end chart performance in Norway as its supposed to be. I need to known especially Madonna's citations. Are you sure you can't take a screenshot at least? I made a similar request in the past regarding protected articles in the National Library Board Singapore, but an user was able to read and take some screenshots and provide me them via email. I've seen other cases via Imgur. Cheers, --Apoxyomenus (talk) 16:14, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
None of them outright state that they are year-end charts, but the data itself suggests that this is the case (e.g. with highest peak and overall time on the charts). I have the data saved elsewhere in case I need it, but no pictures of the pages themselves. Right now, I'd have to wait until the libraries actually open if I wanted to access them, which is in a few hours. ArcticSeeress (talk) 05:32, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Apoxyomenus and @ArcticSeeress, any update on the status of this request? Eddie891 Talk Work 14:39, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Resources for "Search for the Lost Husband" tales (Italian and Berber)

For Prunella (fairy tale) and The Little Girl Sold with the Pears. Both are Italian variants of type AaTh 428, "The Wolf", which is now subsumed under type ATU 425B. Aprile's catalogue is the most up to date index for the Italian Tales of Magic (up until tale type ATU 451, that is).

3. * Aprile, Renato (2000). Indice delle fiabe popolari italiane di magia (in Italian). Vol. 2. Leo S. Olschki. ISBN 9788822248558. (only the "Indice"/Summary)

For Animal as Bridegroom and the Italian variants (specially Pintosmalto, King Crin (Italian fairy tale), The King of Love). Aprile's catalogue is the most up to date index for the Italian Tales of Magic (up until tale type ATU 451, that is). Food & Wine magazine article, late 2018/early 2019

[edit]

For a planned article on St Mars of the Desert brewery. Currently collecting sources for an article and have got a few but came across a possible extra one. This piece from April 2019 mentions an article about the brewery in a "recent" issue of Food & Wine magazine. I've been able to find the April 2019 and March 2019 and December 2018 editions online but no sign of the article in question. I wondered if anyone with access to back issues could have a look in the February 2019 and January 2019 issues and see if they can find the article mentioned above.

Thanks, BigDom (talk) 15:50, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

BigDom, is this it? I did a quick search of the back issues and didn't find anything, so it may not have ever made it into the print edition (or I may just be missing it). Extraordinary Writ (talk) 22:21, 19 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Ontario Photographers List - Volume 1 (1851-1900).

[edit]

{{resolved}} Not exactly a request per se but a question that I figured could be best asked here. I am wondering if this is anywhere to find the book, The Ontario Photographers List - Volume 1 (1851-1900). by Glen C. Phillips, It would be a great help to my research if I could find it in some kind of online library or something. I've found volume two on the Internet Archive but volume one is the one I need. Unfortunate since it seems to be out of print it may only be available for viewing with the purchase of a second hand copy. I thought I'd give it a try here though first so thanks in advance. Biographies of William Washington

[edit]

There are several versions of an encounter between several British officers and William Washington’s cavalry during or after the Battle of Cowpens. Some said that Washington and Tarleton personally fought each other and Patriots spread stories of a “duel” between them.

William Washington apparently never left no records. Nevertheless, I am interested in whether the incident is described in the two biographies I’m aware of:

“William Washington, American Light Dragoon: A Continental Cavalry Leader in the War of Independence” by Daniel Murphy, Westholme Pub. 2014 & 2020 ISBN 9781594163432, 159416343X OCLC 1133277612

“William Washington, Cavalryman of the Revolution” by Stephen Haller, Heritage Pub. 1974, 2001: 2007, & 2019. ISBN 9780788418037, 0788418033 OCLC 867859300

I would appreciate hearing from someone who has access to copies.

For Banastre Tarleton

Thanks, Humphrey Tribble (talk) 03:28, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Humphrey Tribble, looking at your second source, there is a page on some sort of encounter that you may be referring to. "Tarleton himself now closed with his oversized saber to finish Washington, but the charmed dragoon parried the blow with his broken sword! Tarleton wheeled about and fired his pistol, missing William but wounding his horse. By this time, the rest of Washington's cavalry approached, forcing Tarleton to flee."(page 72, citing Bass, Green Dragoon p. 159 and Graham, Morgan p. 306). That seems to be the extent of it. Eddie891 Talk Work 15:06, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, {user|Eddie891}. Yes, that’s the incident, so I can cross one book off my list. Some other versions mention Washington’s broken sword but that is the first I know of referring to Tarleton having an oversized saber. All the various accounts are telling a story. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but the bare facts are unclear.
Your mention of Graham’s bio of Morgan opened up a few more leads: I now have Johnson’s bio of Greene and Lee’s memoirs (edited by Robert E Lee). But my latest favorite is Kenneth Roberts 1958 “essay” The Battle of Cowpens, which isn’t used in the Wikipedia article of that name. I wish he had written a bio of Tarleton. Humphrey Tribble (talk) 07:03, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Humphrey Tribble Yeah, that's a shame, though it's unsurprising to me sources conflict about the details-- the primary sources probably do too. Good to follow up all the leads though. For what it's worth the version of Haller I looked at was 1974, when it was published as a master's thesis, so things may have gotten better fleshed out in later editions. I also requested your first source via interlibrary loan, will update as/when I get access. Eddie891 Talk Work 13:08, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Influence of the Movie Frozen (2013) on Young Adults' Perception of Self-Acceptance and Gender Roles

For Frozen (2013 film)

Thanks, Wingwatchers (talk) 15:10, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Wingwatchers This is a BA student's final project - you shouldn't be citing this on Wikipedia anyway. -- asilvering (talk) 17:23, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Asilvering I didn't because I don't have access to it in the first place but the title really intrigued me. Wingwatchers (talk) 17:25, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Asilvering Anyway why cannot be cited? Wingwatchers (talk) 17:26, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Wingwatchers I don't have access either! The file is "RBC BHBC3104 FULL THESIS YAP KAH LING.pdf" and it's listed as a Bachelor thesis on the link you gave. As a general fyi, if you find a website like this, calling itself "institutional repository" or similar, you're probably looking at student work. Yes, profs and postdocs will also have their work in the institutional repository, but you'll be able to find those publications elsewhere.
As for why, well, it's student work! All you know is that the student passed, which is a pretty low bar. See WP:SCHOLARSHIP's section on dissertations, and keep in mind that those are doctoral dissertations, two degree levels higher than a bachelor's thesis! -- asilvering (talk) 17:30, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The only people with access to this paper are going to be students/staff of one particular university in Malaysia, so your chance of getting it is very low, Wingwatchers. Given that (as Asilvering says) it's not a reliable source anyway, I'd encourage you to just mark this request with {{resolved}} so it can be archived. I'm after https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000563/19210131/084/0006 which I anticipate is an obituary for John Bruce (briefly MP for Greenock); could also do with enough details of the newspaper, headline &c, to be able to reference it. thx --Tagishsimon (talk) 18:38, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Golden Age of Buffalo Sports for Leroy Chollet article (update: chapter 5)

[edit]
  • Starr, Dan (1 October 2009). "Chapter Five: College Basketball in the Aud". Golden Age of Buffalo Sports (1945-1950). City of Light Publishing. ISBN 978-0978847678. OCLC 313368507.

For Leroy Chollet

I'm looking for any information on Leroy Chollet from this book. The Amazon blurb and a book review[5] both note that he is covered but not which pages. The publisher may also be listed as Canisius College Press or Buffalo Heritage Press.

Thanks, Rjjiii (talk) 04:44, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
