Kate Fulton is a Nelson City Councillor. She stood for the West Coast-Tasman electorate for the Green Party in the 2017 election. Final results for West Coast-Tasman 100% votes counted: Damien O'Connor (Lab) 16,526, Maureen Pugh (Nat) 11,690, Kate Fulton (Green) 1,747. Party vote: National 40.9%, Labour 36.8% [1]

Fulton lives in Nelson and is a councillor for the city council.[2][3]

Political career[edit]

Fulton was elected as a Nelson City Councillor at the 2010 elections, and was reelected in 2013 and 2016.[3] She was reelected in a close race at the 2016 elections, at the final result being only 61 votes away from the thirteenth ranked candidate Trudie Brand.[4] Originally Brand was elected by 141 votes, but after special votes were counted Fulton slipped into 12th seat by 61 votes.[4] During her third term, she was selected as the Green Party's candidate for the electorate of West Coast-Tasman.[3][2] She competed against incumbent Damien O'Connor who had held the electorate or its previous form, Tasman, since 1993, with a break from 2008 to 2011.
