Welcome to the seventh edition of the Bugle for 2017!
This month's article news section features an unusually diverse range of new featured and A-class articles, with topics ranging from a Victorian-era coastal fort to battles of the Seven Years' War and a major unit of the Red Army. The closest thing to a common thread is that all but one of the articles is focused on a European topic! The book reviews section is also diverse, Nick-D reviewing a recent book on the US Government's preparations for the destruction of the nation it leads and the external reviews including an assessment of two interesting new books on posttraumatic stress disorder in the Canadian Armed Forces. TomStar81 has also delivered a pair of interesting articles: an op-ed on the uneasy and doomed transitional government which followed the first part of the Russian Revolution, and his monthly World War I timeline.
The contest department has completed its 120th round of competition. A total of 42 articles were submitted by 11 editors. Kges1901 took out the competition with 79 points from 13 articles, while Parsecboy came second with 58 points from seven articles. Kges has been awarded the Chevrons for their achievement, and Parsecboy has received the Writer's Barnstar. Auntieruth, Catlemur, Djmaschek, Euryalus, Historical Perspective 2, Iazyges, Miyagawa, Peacemaker67, and Zawed also contributed entries. Points will go towards the 2017 Military History Writers' Contest Cup, which will be decided at the end of the December contest.
