Welcome to the eighth Bugle edition for 2019!
The article news section features no less than 18 new A-class articles! These include five articles on battleships, all of which were ill-fated; two were sunk by enemy action, two were destroyed by accidental explosions and the fifth sank after running aground.
The book reviews section includes two assessments of recent works on World War II contributed by Hawkeye7 and a book on Australian prisoners of war of that conflict contributed by Peacemaker67, as well as the usual wrap-up of reviews published elsewhere.
In a major milestone, co-editor of the Bugle Ian Rose recently had his 80th Featured Article promoted, which puts him in fourth place for the whole of English Wikipedia. He is currently leading the tally among members of the project, but Sturmvogel 66 is close behind, and Parsecboy and Hawkeye7 are not much further back.
Several significant long-term undertakings by members have come to fruition recently in the Featured and Good Topic space, working in very different parts of our project. First is Gog the Mild's five-article FT on the Crécy campaign, all of which are Featured Articles, an impressive contribution to our coverage of the Hundred Years' War. New Good Topics include Parsecboy's twenty-three article one on the Torpedo cruisers of Italy, and the eight-article one on the Mercury Seven astronauts by Balon Greyjoy, Hawkeye7 and Kees08. Well done to all that contributed to the articles and lists that went towards those achievements. Speaking of Good Articles, Gog the Mild recently reviewed their 100th Good Article nomination, and co-editor of the Bugle Nick-D recently passed 75 Good Article reviews. Thanks to both of you for all your reviewing work!
The 2019 coordinator elections are almost upon us. Help choose the ten-person coordinator team for the next year by registering your votes, and maybe even put yourself up for election. You can watchlist the election page, which is here, prior to nominations opening on 1 September.

- AustralianRupert for Battle of Elands River (1900), Landing at Jacquinot Bay, and 1st Armoured Brigade (Australia).

- The contest department completed its 144th round of competition in July. A total of 46 articles were submitted by 9 editors. Sturmvogel 66 took out the competition with 75 points from 9 articles, while Gog the Mild came second with 56 points from 5 articles. Sturmvogel 66 has been awarded the Chevrons for his achievement, and Gog the Mild has received the Writer's Barnstar. Parsecboy, AustralianRupert, Chetsford, Peacemaker67, Djmaschek, PlanespotterA320 and Zawed also contributed entries. Points will go towards the 2019 Military History Writers' Contest Cup, which will be decided at the end of the December contest. Please submit any articles you are working on for the next round of the competition now.
