Wikipedia:WikiProject Highways/Peer review/Brighton Bypass/Archive 1

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I am looking for comments on how I can I improve this article further. I also would appreciate comments on how to improve my specific writing style in road articles in an attempt to improve their status. Wiki ian 09:39, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Lead
    • The lead should not be cited, unless you are introducing controversial or statistical facts. The only thing that should be cited there is the $164 million cost (note the addition of a non breaking space between 164 and million).
    • Cites should not come until a comma or full stop, not mid sentence.
    • 9.5 km should be wrapped in the convert template (e.g. "{{convert|9.5|km|adj=on}} long federally funded...")
  • History
    • "Northern ports." decap northern.
    • "great strain on a Highway" decap highway
    • "In 2007, the Lennon government " - who is Lennon? John Lennon?
  • Construction
    • nbsp between number and million
    • "Construction commenced in April 2009 - A month early." - incorrect use of hyphen. Maybe something like "Construction of the bypass started a month early in April 2009."
    • "During May 2010, Lara Giddings Announced the opening of Glenstone Road." caps
    • "Bridge was planned to have a continues span over the Jordan river levee, " - a continuous span and JRL should be capped.
    • "The minister of Heritage," - caps
  • Exits
    • The exit list should follow the general guidelines from the Manual of Style - Road Junction Lists.
    • The roundabout icon is unneeded, but once you switch to a RJL compliant exit list, it can be noted in the "notes" field that the interchange is a roundabout.
    • Distances should be cited.
  • References
    • Overlinking is present in the references. ABC News only needs to be wikilinked once.
    • "Appendix 3 Investigation of Practical and Feasible Alternative Options" is a dead link, which seems to be used multiple times, check to see if its just moved...
    • Drop Category:2012 establishments as we don't know if the road will be completed in time.

As far as general writing style, I would suggest checking out some of the United States Roads WikiProject's Featured Articles, or some international Good Articles, such as A3 (Croatia). Let me know if I can be of more help. Either hit me up on my talk page or, respond here as I will watch this page.
