Websites
[edit]- NavigatingChange.org, the website of the voyage that the Hokule'a took a few years back, is a good place to start.
- ...and this is their archive of videos that contain a lot of good info and perspective.
- The official FWS website on Midway Atoll contains a wealth of info on Midway Atoll.
- website on the National Monument is the source about the National Mounument.
- As for news about the NWHI, you can go to this site.
- Go here, scroll down to "NWHI" and pick "Starr, F., K. Martz, and L. Loope. 2001. Botanical Inventory of Kure Atoll. Report prepared for State Department of Land and Natural Resources, Honolulu, Hawai'i" for basically all of your Kure Atoll needs.
- Invasive Species in the NWHI: go to the page directly above, but click on Martz, K., F. Starr, and L. Loope. 2001. Status of Non-native Plants in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands."
- Jane Resture does for histories of islands what airplanes did for travel. What you want is a little lower than halfway down the page.
- Not really a gem of info, but the Multi-Agency website is the joint site of the NOAA and the USFWS on the NWHI.
- For Nihoa, you can go to this page to look inside Isles of Refuge: Wildlife and History of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands (see general reference section). The book goes on to other islands, but the pages that they let you look at are only about Nihoa.
