A task force of the Crime and Criminal Biography WikiProject

Welcome to the Serial Killer task force. (A task force of the Crime and Criminal Biography WikiProject). The goal of this task force is to update and maintain all articles relating to serial killers, mass murderers and murders, and spree killers. This includes all topics from criminal biographies to profiling and apprehension techniques. Anyone with an interest in these subjects is welcome to join.

Scope

[edit]

The Serial Killer task force covers articles relating to serial killers, mass murders, and spree killers.

A serial killer is defined as someone who kills at least three people (though in some law enforcement jurisdictions only two) with a "cooling down period" of no activity in between the killings.

A mass murderer is typically defined as someone who kills a large amount of people in a relatively short time in close proximity, typically with at least 3 victims, where there is no cooling down period. This does not exclude articles that are not biographies of the perpetrator: if the article is focused primarily on the event and not the perpetrator it is still in the scope.

A spree killer is typically defined as someone who kills at least two people in a short time, often in multiple locations, with no cooling down period.

Precise definitions of the above terms vary widely and determining which term used in an individual article is most appropriate must be decided on a case by case basis, but these are some of the more common definitions useful for defining the scope of the project.

Infoboxes

[edit]
  1. Use the exact infobox text below and add the information of the criminal. Do not insert any rows that do not appear below, or alter any row into erroneous text, such as using "convicted of" instead of "charge". If you do, the information will not appear.
  2. Link locations, penalties, names, etc. Do not link dates or years. (See MOS:SYL)
  3. Do not use flag icons for locations. (See MOS:FLAG)
  4. Do not fill in "Apprehended" until the accused has been convicted.

Attention: Read the section above before inserting infobox
