Description
[edit]This project would focus on updating and maintain articles about large and notable wildfires. Zackmann08 (Talk to me/What I been doing) 19:30, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
List of important pages and categories for this proposed group
- Wildfire (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
- 2016 California wildfires (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
- 2015 California wildfires (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
- Soberanes Fire (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
- Sand Fire (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
- Category:Wildfires (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Category:Wildfires in California by year (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Template:Infobox wildfire (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- List of WikiProjects currently on the talk pages of those articles
- Please invite these and any other similar groups to join the discussion about this proposal. See Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Directory to find similar WikiProjects.
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Fire Service (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Wikipedia:WikiProject California (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
- At the moment the WikiProject Fire Service is being used but that project has really morphed into being focused on individual departments. I would like to create a project that focuses on large and notable fires, their structure, what to include/not include, etc.
Support
[edit]- I would intend to be the first member of the project! Zackmann08 (Talk to me/What I been doing) 19:30, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
- Support. I tend not to formally "join" WikiProjects, but I find them very helpful as a locus for discussions that cross multiple articles, and this is certainly an area where that would be helpful. I got invited to this discussion based on my recent edits to Soberanes Fire, a wildfire that is relatively local to me, and I which I took an interest since I was camping only about 30 miles away on the night it started (I took the photos that are currently on that page). But I've already raised two questions in that article's talk page that have applicability to multiple articles and that would be well addressed by the proposed WikiProject.
- As an aside, I would add Template:Infobox wildfire to the "List of important pages..." above. Templates are frequently overlooked, but since they affect so many articles, they're pretty important. TJRC (talk) 16:46, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]My focus is local. I am interested in disaster in California. Have helped with disaster relief on two recent wild fires. Of course the more I work relief the less time I have for Wikipedia.Saltysailor (talk) 22:26, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
In addition to Template:Infobox wildfire, which I noted in my support statement above, the category Category:Wildfires is probably the one most applicable to the scope of this proposed WikiProject. I realize that not every single applicable article and category should be listed above, but it's worth pointing out that there are scores of both categories and articles in that category. Not all of them would be within the scope of this WikiProject, but the vast majority would be, and I think that further points to the potential value of the proposed WikiProject.
