Description
[edit]I am proposing a project for articles relating to the New England region of the United States; I invite all editors interested in the New England states or New England as a region, including its history, culture, economy, society, and so on, to join me in improving these articles. Both the main article, New England, and attendant articles, like Cuisine of New England and History of New England, could benefit greatly from such support. Discussion
[edit]Wouldn't this kind of duplicate Wikipedia:WikiProject Connecticut, Wikipedia:WikiProject Rhode Island, Wikipedia:WikiProject Massachusetts, Wikipedia:WikiProject New Hampshire, Wikipedia:WikiProject Vermont, and Wikipedia:WikiProject Maine? — PCB 03:12, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- A fair question, but I can think of countless examples of WikiProjects whose subjects themselves have WikiProjects. One may be interested in Connecticut qua Connecticut, or Connecticut only insofar as it is part of New England, for example. Furthermore, from 1620-1776, New England was not coterminous with the six modern U.S. states comprising New England; articles like the History of New England need serious work. --TimothyDexter (talk) 19:30, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Agreed. Frankly its context in New England is the only reason I would edit articles on Connecticut. And New England has a number of distinctive features (e.g. New England town, Governor's Council), which are not unique to one state, but are unique to the region. --Quintucket (talk) 06:12, 20 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
How about merging all the New England state wikiprojects into WP:New England? (each state would become a taskforce) They don't seem particularly active. 65.94.47.63 (talk) 07:49, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Although I am not opposed to the idea of this project there are currently a lot of inactive or semi active projects relating to this area as well as United States. I would recommend that starting out as a supported project of United States might be benficial and then if the project generates sufficient interest and participation you can split off. For what its worth I found this because I was going to create a project page for New England because its one of the few regions that doesn't have a project and I thought it should have one. --Kumioko (talk) 17:22, 26 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose
[edit]- Although theoretically a good idea, if there is a WikiProject on one region in the United States, then there should be one on all regions.Who Am I Why Am I Here? (talk) 20:25, 23 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Who's to stop anybody? Is this really a reason for opposition? --TimothyDexter (talk) 08:00, 24 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
