The resulting WikiProject was created at Wikipedia:WikiProject NATO
Description
[edit]This project would work on coordinating articles related to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). While a substantial portion of what falls under NATO is covered under the Military History Wikiproject, NATO is both a political and a military organization, so many topics do not properly fall under Military History, including the political dimensions of the alliance, and many key figures associated with it. The project, would quite likely be much like the similar Wikiproject United Nations. Who's interested?

[edit]- To be clear, your talking about something similar to the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Cold War, where the project will sort of be tooled to handling the issues uncovered by the current projects and task forces as a whole? Also, if this does not work out, you may want to consider thinking about reorganizing as a TF under the cold war project. TomStar81 (Talk) 05:04, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Yes, it'd be similar to that. I'm resistant to the idea of a TF under the Cold War project though, as NATO has now outlasted the Cold War by nearly 20 years (and done a lot in that time). Yes, though, this is basically about finding a way to cover all those NATO topics that don't really fall anywhere else. To give a few examples: North Atlantic Council, North Atlantic Treaty, NATO summit, NATO Membership Action Plan, Secretary General of NATO, Enlargement of NATO, etc. A common theme that you may notice about many of the articles named above is that they are in rather pitiful shape. I think a WikiProject could help in a few specific areas. Mostly with creating and maintaining a standard for use in articles dealing with NATO summits, accession of countries to NATO, and NATO's bilateral relations. The summits template shows how many articles are missing there. Recently, accession articles, such as Albania, have been written, but not in a standardized way. I'd also like to see more articles like Georgia–NATO relations, the way the EU has articles like Iceland and the European Union, though that somewhat falls under WikiProject International relations. As a central point of discussion, it could make decisions on disputes, such as how to refer to Macedonia in NATO articles or what spelling of "programme" to use.--Patrick «» 16:04, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
