The proposed WikiProject was not created. Closing proposal due to insufficient editor interest. Those interested in this topic may find like-minded editors at Wikipedia:WikiProject Judaism and Wikipedia:WikiProject Religion. Ajpolino (talk) 18:56, 10 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

- Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
- Judaism is a faith filled with numerous written works that form a mainstay of the religion. From the Torah to the Talmud, numerous Jewish texts exist, and as a result, numerous articles about these texts exist. However, despite the importance of this topic, many of these articles are stubs and poorly written. This isn’t because there aren’t enough people knowledgeable about them to help. Rather, I believe it is because there isn’t a centralized location for editors to collaborate on improving articles like this. Hence, this WikiProject.

Discussion
[edit]- Clarification: Is this only including Jewish religious texts and commentaries on them? Pinging Bloger who may be interested. Catrìona (talk) 21:46, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- Jewish works of the type that would be included in Wikipedia are mostly texts, but I see no reason why the project should purposely limit itself to that, beyond the natural tendency it will have to focus on texts due to the amount of Jewish written work. Puzzledvegetable (talk) 22:11, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment I've been editing Wikipedia for a long time (in a few days, it will be 12 years since I registered). During that time, I've seen a lot of eager and well-intentioned editors start WikiProjects on Jewish subjects, but the only one that has lasted (besides WikiProject Judaism) is WikiProject Jewish Women. There have been unsuccessful WikiProjects for articles related to Jewish culture, Jewish history, Jewish Americans, Orthodox Judaism, Progressive Judaism, the Jewish Labour Bund, and probably others I'm not aware of. I don't mean to dampen your enthusiasm, but before you create yet another WikiProject on a Jewish subject, consider whether your goals can be achieved through the existing WikiProject Judaism. — MShabazz Talk/Stalk 21:52, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- I'll definitely take that into consideration (perhaps a taskforce within a WikiProject will be more appropriate), but it is too early to come to a decision now. If, and when, more users join (or specifically don't) it will be clearer whether or not this is a good idea. Puzzledvegetable (talk) 22:11, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- Should definitely be a taskforce/workgroup of WP:WikiProject Judaism and also cross-referenced from WP:WikiProject Literature, etc. WP:PROJECTFORKing major, general wikiprojects into excessively narrow subtopical ones has much to do with wikiproject failure, by both setting up [to fail!] new micro-projects that will not have enough participants to be sustainable, and draining participation from once-viable broader projects. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 22:46, 18 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
