  • Giant (Nitro) - Durham classifies as locality; site of Giant Powder Company;redirect? probably notable; Giant and Nitro are two different locations.
  • Nichols - per Durham, a railroad siding named after major landholder in the area. Contra Costa County Historical Society has several photos of what the community of Nichols. See history of Bay Point [1] and [2].
  • Oleum - company town; post office 1910-1951; see [3];
  • Selby company town; [4]
  • Stege - see [5] [6];
  • Tormey - former company town, razed after plant closure; [7]
  • Valona - listed as town in Durham; see [8] and [9];


  • Tammukan - local tribe of Delta Yokuts-speaking natives; should be renamed and removed from Municipalities and communities of Contra Costa County;
renamed Tamcan and classified as tribe not community.

  • Bridgehead - Durham call it a community but no other evidence; there is a Bridghead Rd in Oakley
  • Crolona Heights - not in Durham; district in Crockett [17]; maybe redirect to Crockett
  • Glen Frazer - train depot; site of Frazerville post office; Frazer was a local rancher; Durhams lists as locality;
  • Marsh Creek Springs - a private recreational park in 1930s [18]; listed as locality in Durham;
  • Rewritten to characterize as a recreational facility; not a community.
  • Muir - listed in Durham as locality; name associated with John Muir; may refer to rail overpass [19]; not a community;
  • Orwood - listed as locality in Durham; had a post office; called a farming tract here [20];listed as rail station here [21];
  • Ozol - Durham calls it a locality; most notable as site of Ozol Fuel Depot; perhaps redirect;
  • Rheem - community developed starting in 1944; incorporated into Moraga in 1974; maybe re-direct to Moraga [22]; seems better known as Rheem Valley. There a two Rheems in Contra Costa, one in Moraga (this one) and one even less notable near Richmond;
  • Tassajara - rural area;
  • Valle Vista - proposed subdivision of Canyon, named for nearby rail station [23] and [24]; redirect to Canyon?
