A list of bus routes, whether by area or by operator, should generally have the following information:
- Labels (usually numbers), along with an anchor so that, if the route is unimportant, the redirect can take readers directly to the information about that route. To create that formatting, User:NE2/bus div can be substed. If the route does have a separate article, place a link here.
- General terminals; it is not necessary to include all short-turn terminals or exact intersections.
- A general description of the streets traveled; do not list every street, but only the ones that "define" the route.
- Operator of the route, if not all routes in the list are operated by the same company.
- History of the route, including as a tram line if applicable.
- General notes, like if it runs limited-stop or express.
- If tram lines are numbered using the same system, it generally makes sense to include them in the list.

When to create a bus route list
[edit]Generally, if the bus routes in an area descended from streetcars, a list is appropriate, and if the system did not exist at all until the 1990s, it is probably not. In between those extremes, use your own judgment.
